Records of the Michigan Department of Military Affairs, Office of the Adjutant General, 1937-1943.

This record group consists of three set of records from the office of the Adjutant General of the Michigan Department of Military Affairs. The first set of records concern the Flint sit-down strike (1937). These files consist of a journal account of the Adjutant General's use of the Michigan National Guard during the strike. Includes reports, general orders, special orders, troop records, correspondence, 161 photographs relating to the Guard and the strike, and 6 maps. The second set of records relate to the Sojourner Truth Housing Project (1942). These records consists of a journal account of the State Troops' action at the housing project in Detroit, where a military presence was required to protect Blacks from protestors who objected to them moving into the new facilities. The third set of records deal with the 1943 Detroit riot. The records are comprised of the Adjutant General's summary of events journal, which provides a daily account of all activity of the State Troops on riot duty and field orders issued. Also includes a list of Blacks arrested and their statements to the police.

This record group concerns the involvement of the Michigan National Guard in the Flint sit-down strike against General Motors in 1937.
